2002: The start of cooperation
As the 2002/03 football season kicks off on 10 August, Audi starts its first season as a sponsor in the Bundesliga. Premium cars meet premium football. The cooperation between two global brands begins. A number of players receive the brand-new Audi RS6 Avant, a car which, for the next 20 years, will delight the worldwide fan base like no other.
FC Bayern Munich wins both Bundesliga derbies against TSV 1860 Munich and takes the Championship and the DFB Cup.
2003: Founding of the Audi FC Bayern fan club
For the first time, a sponsor’s employees team up to form an official FC Bayern fan club. Over the years, the number of members grows to more than 5,000. FC Bayern wins both Bundesliga derbies against TSV 1860 Munich in the Olympic Stadium.
2005: Opening of the Allianz Arena
Designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron, the Allianz Arena marks the start of a new era as a stadium used purely for football. Audi opens its shop in FC Bayern’s ‘Brand World’ and holds hospitality events in the new home of world-class football.
At the end of the season, FC Bayern Munich celebrates the double – winning the Championship and the DFB Cup.
2009: The first Audi Cup
Audi redefines sports sponsorship and, with FC Bayern Munich, launches the Audi Cup as a pre-season friendly tournament. Featuring four of the world’s most successful teams – Manchester United, Boca Juniors, AC Milan, and FC Bayern – the Audi Cup also marks the debut in the Allianz Arena for Bayern coach Louis van Gaal. A total of 130,000 football fans watched the tournament live in Munich on the two match days. The Audi Cup was the sporting highlight of Audi’s 100th birthday celebrations. In the final, Bayern beat Man United 7-6 in a penalty shootout.
2009: Extension of the partnership
The close partnership between AUDI AG and FC Bayern Munich, which began in 2002, is taken to a new level: in three steps between March 2010 and July 2011 at the latest, the Ingolstadt-based automotive manufacturer will acquire a 9.09% stake in FC Bayern Munich AG.
FC Bayern ends the 2009/10 season winning the Championship and DFB Cup double.
2012: Opening of FC Bayern’s ‘World of Experience’
The moment so many Bayern fans have waited for finally arrives. On 25 May, the largest football club museum in Germany opens its doors: the FC Bayern ‘World of Experience’ in the Allianz Arena. With the support of FC Bayern’s partner Audi, the 3,050 square-meter exhibition dedicated to the German championship record holders is constructed in just 11 months on Level 3 of the Allianz Arena. A year later, the wait for international titles comes to an end for the fans as FC Bayern wins the first treble in the club’s history.
2014: The first Audi Summer Tour
At the invitation of the Audi brand, the 2014 German champions and cup winners play one of Mexico’s top teams, Club Deportivo Guadalajara, on 31 July in New York.
Before kick-off, FC Bayern officially opens its New York office in order to promote its marketing in the USA. Bayern, now managed by Pep Guardiola, win the match 1-0 thanks to a goal in the 10th minute by Claudio Pizarro.
2017: The Audi Cup holographic press conference
Technology is increasingly becoming an integral part of sport. To introduce the participants in the Audi Cup, Audi holds the world’s first holographic press conference in international professional sport. Bayern coach Carlo Ancelotti was on the stage for the press conference, while Jürgen Klopp of Liverpool FC and Diego Simeone of Atlético Madrid joined Ancelotti via 3D hologram. “I’m part of the Star Trek generation,” said Jürgen Klopp, “I feel as if I’m being beamed to Munich.” The 2017 Audi Cup was won by Atlético Madrid.
2019: FC Bayern meets Audi e-tron
A few weeks before the market launch of Audi’s first fully electric production model, the players, coach, and directors of the German football champion recordholders are able to experience the versatility of the electric SUV for themselves. Audi had prepared various activities for the guests at Munich Airport, including an Audi e-tron driving experience. FC Bayern ends the 2018/19 season with the Championship and Cup double.

2020: Audi and FC Bayern – into the future together
The two premium brands extend their partnership until 2029 and develop it substantially. The focus of the next decade will be on strategic cooperation in the areas of innovation and electrification. The partners also agree on the gradual electrification of FC Bayern Munich’s vehicle fleet.

2020: The Audi Digital Summer Tour
Audi launches a worldwide pilot project with FC Bayern: the German championship recordholders go on a virtual summer tour. The Audi Digital Summer Tour gives fans worldwide the opportunity to experience the pre-season warm-up in real time. Audi and FC Bayern create an innovative and unique format never before used by a football club to create fascinating and exceptional experiences for fans around the world.
2020: The start of electrification at FC Bayern
Audi equips FC Bayern’s training ground with 38 charging points. The Säbener Straße ground is made ready for the Audi e-tron to initiate the transformation to purely electric vehicles.

2020: Audi electrifies FC Bayern
Thanks to its partnership with Audi, FC Bayern Munich becomes the first international football club to drive electric vehicles. The club reduces the fuel consumption of its fleet to under 95 grams of CO₂/km, thus making an important contribution to its sustainability goals.
2020: the Audi e-tron ‘Triple 2020’
FC Bayern’s triumph in Lisbon is historic. With its victory against PSG, the club crowns an outstanding season. For the second time in the club’s history, FC Bayern wins the treble of Bundesliga Championship, DFB Cup and Champion’s League. Audi celebrates this highlight in the partnership’s history with an e-tron ‘Treble’ wrap, a special message with the Audi digital matrix light and special door projections in the players’ cars.

2021: Audi @ FCB World
Audi is part of the newly opened, unique ‘FCB World’ in the center of Munich. A world of experience occupying seven floors with a restaurant and a hotel, it invites visitors to explore, marvel and shop. On the first floor of the new FC Bayern World is the exclusive Audi Experience: in a space of around 50 square meters, visitors can experience Audi in a new form.
2021: Audi creates charging infrastructure in the Allianz Arena
The electrification initiative moves into the next phase. Audi equips the Allianz Arena with more than 50 charging points. “This makes it clear once again that the long-standing partnership with AUDI AG goes far beyond a normal sponsorship,” says Andreas Jung, FC Bayern’s Director of Marketing, Sponsorships and Events.

2021: Electrification 2.0 – the Audi e-tron GT
Audi continues to drive forward the electrification of FC Bayern: at the official handover of the fully electric Audi e-tron GT and Audi RS e-tron GT models at the Driving Experience Center in Neuburg an der Donau, the Bayern players were able to experience for themselves just how much fun it can be to drive a sporty, fully electric Audi.

2021: A partnership dedicated to the future
FC Bayern and Audi extend their partnership. From now on, Audi will also support FC Bayern Women. Hildegard Wortmann, member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG for Sales and Marketing, comments: “FC Bayern’s women footballers are outstanding athletes and strong personalities. Their cooperation is an inspiration for Audi and enriches our successful partnership with the club.”
2022: A 20-year partnership with FC Bayern Munich
In the 2022/23 Bundesliga season the partnership is celebrating its 20th anniversary. Two decades in which FC Bayern has won more titles than ever before.
