Passion to the last bolt: Audi Sport GmbH
Founded 40 years ago with a handful of employees, Audi Sport GmbH – formerly quattro GmbH – today shapes the sporty and exclusive image of the four rings. Audi Sport GmbH is also responsible for vehicle customization and the Audi collection. Motorsport is the fourth business area of Audi Sport GmbH.
With 16 models currently available, the Audi Sport GmbH portfolio is bigger than ever – the number of models in the range has doubled since 2012. The range of vehicles currently extends from the compact Audi RS 3 with its legendary turbocharged inline five-cylinder engine to the RS 4 Avant with a twin-turbo V6 and the RS 6 Avant and RS Q8, each with a twin-turbocharged eight-cylinder engine, through to the R8 super car with naturally aspirated V10 engine and the four rings‘ all-electric sporty spearhead: the RS e-tron GT.
Where craftsmanship meets smart manufacturing
At Audi Böllinger Höfe, the flagship of series production near Neckarsulm, employees of Audi Sport GmbH manufacture the two sportiest vehicles from the four rings: Both the high-performance R8 sports car and the first purely electric RS model in the company's history, the RS e-tron GT, are built here. Precise manufacturing work and the smart production of the future come together on almost 40,000 square meters: While the bodies of both models are largely manufactured separately – the R8 almost exclusively by hand – assembly takes place on a joint assembly line. The production of two models that are so different from a technical perspective on a single assembly line is unique in the Volkswagen Group. In total, Audi Sport GmbH employs around 1,500 people.
The Mission: Zero
Production at Audi Böllinger Höfe is also net carbon neutral. To this end, Audi obtains green electricity and heat from renewable sources. Audi offsets CO₂ emissions that cannot yet be avoided through renewable energy sources with carbon credits from certified climate protection projects. Audi Sport Production is thus making an important contribution to Mission:Zero – the Audi environmental program for consistently sustainable production. A central goal of the program is to achieve CO₂-neutral production at all sites by 2025.

No wish left unfulfilled
The range of options and the Audi exclusive customization program also contribute to the success of Audi Sport GmbH. For example, the sporty Audi subsidiary offers numerous equipment packages exclusively for RS models. The Audi exclusive team focuses on meeting individual customers’ most exclusive wishes.
The vision of Audi exclusive: To combine sustainability and individualization in attractive offers for Audi customers and to provide them with a special experience. This also includes new digital solutions, such as the "Audi exclusive Customiser": a visualization tool with which customers can design their vehicles with thousands of possible combinations using a 3D model and thus create their own personal one-off.
40 years of pioneering spirit
In a challenging environment, Audi Sport GmbH 2022 once again posted record sales. The sporty Audi subsidiary is moving into the future with a clear and consistent electrification strategy. Its vision: To set standards in the high-performance customer experience in electrification on the road and at the racetrack.
